Big, small, pointed, round — ears might seem like a tiny detail, but to me, they’re pure storytelling magic. They can turn a character from a human to a tabaxi.
When I’m dreaming up new ear shapes, I start by studying references — photos, sketches, and even fantasy art. I look for the little things: the curve of a feline ear, the soft tilt of a fox’s, the way an elf’s ear pokes through the hair. Each one sparks a different kind of character energy.
I don’t just recreate what I see — I interpret it. How would this shape feel in yarn? How can I make it sturdy yet expressive? I’ll sketch, test, and tweak until that tiny detail suddenly clicks — and the whole character comes alive.
Every ear I design tells part of the story. Maybe it’s mischievous. Maybe it’s elegant. Maybe it’s something no one’s ever seen before. That’s the beauty of this process — the freedom to experiment until imagination takes form.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about ears. It’s about giving every maker the tools to create a character that is bold, expressive, and completely their own.
