A nose might be small, but it can change everything. It’s one of those details that instantly gives a character life — from a sweet little button nose to a big, bold snout with attitude.
When I start designing noses, I look for shapes that speak. A round, soft nose might make a character look gentle or shy. A longer or larger one can add confidence, mischief, or even a touch of mystery. It’s amazing how a few stitches can shift an expression completely.
I keep a collection of reference photos and sketches — everything from real faces and animals to fantasy creatures. But I’m not aiming for realism; I’m chasing feeling. What does this character’s nose say about them? Are they curious? Regal? Playful? That’s the energy I bring into each design.
As I work, I test and tweak proportions until the face feels balanced. Sometimes a tiny change — one extra stitch or a different placement — suddenly brings the whole character to life. That’s the magic moment: when the yarn stops being yarn and starts being someone.
Because in the end, every nose tells a story. It’s a little spark of personality — proof that even the smallest details can make a world of difference.
Every nose I design is a reminder that character lives in the details — and creativity lives in the courage to explore them.
