If you’ve ever played Final Fantasy XIV, you already know one of its greatest joys:
building your character exactly the way you want.
Height, hair, eyes, jawline, scars, tail shape, horns, ears… the customization list is wild, and it’s honestly one of my favorite parts of the whole game.
And somewhere between choosing the perfect Au Ra horns and tweaking the exact shade of Miqo’te highlights, a thought hit me:
“Why can’t dolls work like this?”
That one moment sent me down a creative rabbit hole — and it became the seed for one of my most exciting ideas yet:
A fully customizable, build-as-you-go crochet doll.
Starting With the Base Body — Just Like Character Creation
Every FFXIV character begins the same way:
Choose your race → Choose your base shape.
So my doll system starts there too.
A simple, clean base body that becomes the blank canvas. Neutral, versatile, ready for any story.
From there, the fun begins.
Customizing the Details (My Favorite Part!)
Just like in the FFXIV character creator, every little detail adds personality. My goal is to give makers the same “I can make anything” feeling.
Height Options
Taller? Shorter? Small like a Lalafell?
The base pattern includes ways to adjust length proportions so your doll can match whoever you’re crafting.
Hair Styles
From sleek bobs to windblown adventurer hair to wild curls, you can add:
- Wig caps
- Long strands
- Layered styles
- Ponytails, braids, spikes
Eyes & Makeup
Just like choosing eye shape and liner in the creator:
- Embroidered eyes
- Safety eyes
- Painted accents
- Blush, freckles, glam makeup, dramatic shadow
Tiny details = big personality.
Tail Shapes
Inspired by Miqo’te, Au Ra, and all those gorgeous FFXIV creature designs:
- Long thin tails
- Thick fluffy ones
- Scaled draconic curves
- Forked fantasy styles
- Short expressive stubs
Each one changes the whole vibe.
But I Don’t Want to Stop There…
In the game, customization goes far beyond basics — and I want that freedom in crochet too.
I want to go even further with this doll system:

Angel wings, demon wings, fae wings, mechanical wings — detachable or sewn on.
✨ Ears
All the ear options we wish life came with:
- Elf ears
- Fae ears
- Beast ears
- Dragon ears
- Floppy creature ears
- Pointed, curved, tufted — all the possibilities
✨ Horns, Spikes, Accessories
Every adventurer needs a personal flair.
Why This Matters
I want pattern makers — beginners to seasoned creators — to feel the same thing I feel in FFXIV’s character creator:
That spark of joy when you realize you can shape your character into anything you imagine.
No limits. No cookie-cutter.
Just pure creativity.
My long-term goal with this doll system is simple:
Give you the tools to build characters as unique as the ones you dream up.
Whether they’re inspired by your Warrior of Light, your D&D OC, or a brand-new creation, I want you to have endless freedom.
This is customization turned into craft — creativity with no ceiling.
